Hersh had called me 2 day backand said that he, Vijay, Ranjit, Hirjee, Parag and Purab were going for a trek to Shirota. I said 'yes'. Shirota is another lake beyond Tungarli and Valvan. Packed my bag for 3-4 days and left at 2pm on April 7. I planned to travel by bus to Chembur and then take a ST red bus to Lonavala by NH-4. I did not get a Chembur bus for very long, so I got in a bus going to Andheri east and then took an auto. Got in the red immediately. After a minor mishap of old man's bag falling on me, I changed my seat and sat near the conductor in front.
I clicked many pictures on the way. I want use them on my blog that I had writen on NH-4.
Walked down to the hotel from Lonavala bus depot. Baba, Sweety, Shikha and Shruti (late Acha's family) were there too for a night. It was nice meeting them. Baba and me had a good discussion about doing a book on Navketan. Purab and Yamini too came in a little late from Pune.
Got up at 5.30am next morning (April 8) and was down at 6am. I was carrying my bag with a small bottle of water and camera. The gang of 7 collected at 6.15 and moved off. We left behind Tungarli in 15 min and Valvan in 30 min. At one point the leader missed the route and we had to rough it out in dry, tall wild growth. But it made the trek interesting. I got some scratches due to thorns. There should be some roughness during trekking. After a 30min extra work, Hirjee remembered the route. And soon we were comfortable. We got to our destination at 9am. We opened our bags, took out breakfast and waterbottles etc. There were bananas, boiled eggs and veg sandwitches. I clicked a lot of pictures of Shirota. I was seeing it for the first time. After breakfast we turned back and reached the Lions Den hotel at 11.15am. It was good 5 hour nearly tough walk.
I met Hirjee, a Parsi gentleman for the first time. He is a software program writer. He says he comes to Lonavala for 5 day to write and goes to Mumbai for 2 day for delivering and getting orders. Cool.
