-------SHOOTING SCHEDULE ENDS
This is being (b)logged a little late; perhaps more than a month late. on 20 June, 2008. i had gone for KVK Energy corporate film shoot to Chhattisgarh. Venu asked me to do this shoot. cameraman mahendra rayan, assistant mahesh and attendant sunil were part of the unit. the camera was digi-beta 790. flight from mumbai was at 9.30am.
flight generally was pleasant, but just before landing the airplane shuddered violently side ways. it felt like a boat pitching. due to this something went wrong in my stomach and i started getting a strong puky feeling. i started sweating too. i was fanning myself with a news paper as i felt the cold blower was not enough. i was seriously trying to understand this feeling. my mind went to problems of heart or stroke. my mind was functioning and it was checking all the parameters. finally after a while the sick feeling subsided; but my stomach was still tight. i picked up a nice health magzine from the plane. there was also a nice health article in the TOI, kolkata.
we were out of the airport in 20 min after landing. mr. reddy, our guide and contact was late. there was a Tata Safari for our travel to Korba. after loading i realised that the car was crammed for us all. two boys sat in front seat. back seat had 3 of us and camera. the rear was full of equipment.
all decided that we should get out of the city fast and try to reach a Dhaba during lunch time. the driver said he can do that by 1.30pm. i said it was fine. but we got to the Shere Punjab at 3.15pm. we all were very hungery. orders were placed. food was good. this place was at 'Chakar Bhatha'. we again stopped for tea at Pali around 5pm. it has been raining around here. driver was very knowledgable about this region. reached Korba at 6.30pm, got in Room#112. later tested the camera and loaded first tape. also checked the mike. shoot format 4:3.
at 8.15 had bath and dinner in my room. slept at 10pm.
21 June. we left hotel at 8am after breakfast. reached first power plant SVPL site. there was nothing. just flat land and some bull dozers and trucks. it looked very blank. also it was drizzling continuously. no work worth shooting was being done. but i created some shots and shot about 17 min length.
we moved out from here after 2 hours of shooting. next plant was LANCO. it was under construction in real sense. there was a lot of activity. the land area was very large and a lot of metal and other stuff was all around me. i climbed up a cement mixer that was not being used. it was as high as a 6 floor building. i took a lot of top angle shots from there. the rain was continuing. the ground was all slush. my shoes sank in wet mud a few times and got covered with mud. but the shoot here was quite good, due to the structure itself.
cameraman mahendra behaved badly by taking a different route after i annpunced 'wrap'. i had to carry the battery on me for nearly 2 hours. we reached the hotel at Korba at 8pm. by this time i was getting a spliting headache. i ordered cheese sandwich and milk, but could not finish it. i had no idea why did i get it. after some struggle i managed Aspro and popped 2 of them before sleeping.
22 June. again we had breakfast and drove off for the shoot of the 3rd power plant KVK Bio. this plant uses coal a well as rice husk for heating the boilers. got some good shots of coal on the conveyer belt and also husk being moved in trucks. mahendra on 2 occasions behaved very badly and i was sure that i was not going to work with him again. after taking the shot of the gate at 3.45 pm i called it a 'wrap' and we moved to Raipur. we were already carrying our personal bags along in the car.
reached hotel Simran (Room# 504) at Raipur at 7pm. Ordered Veg Pulao for dinner at 9pm. met Surendra, Venu's friend first time. he looked very different than i had thought. he sat for sometime and then left. i kept surfing the TV channels for long time.i felt all the movies on TV were very interesting. I watched Alag till 11.30. then my head swung due to strong wave of sleepiness. i gave in and switched off. but at 1am someone tried to open my door to enter. i was asking "wjo are you?" and he kept trying to turn the handle to come in. i called the reception and called Surendra too. some peope collected outside. i opened the door. Surendra said 'sorry' and then I again wnt to sleep. most likely some that was some drunk guy, who spoilt my sleep.
23 June. our flight was around 2pm. reached back mumbai and dropped 4 exposed, 2 blank tapes and lights-bag at the Provideo office at 5pm.
in the morning pranav and seema went to the hospital. chachaji and me were supposed to visit in the aftrnoon. but before our visit time one of the boy servants came running up and said "you both get ready, car is coming, nani has died." well this time the news was already here. i was sticking to chachaji. i walked behind him while climbing up or down the steps. he went in and came out after a while. he was crying. i made him sit next to me. he cried a little more, then started settling down. seema and me both walked in to see chachiji. she looked very thin. her mouth and eyes open just a bit. but her face did not have signs of any struggle. i mumbled to seema "poor thing, how much she suffered." she kissed her hand "i know."
dulari chachi was on her way from New Zealand. she arrived late at night, due to her the cremation was not done on the same day and was planned for next morning. harish seema and some friends started their actions on the hospital formalities and booking the cremation place. i left with chachaji and came back home.
people started dropping by to condole as the news spread 'person to person.'
morning of this day (19 July, 2008) chachiji had a very strong expression on her face. she sis not extend her hand towards me like the first day. as i spoke to her about who all are sitting outside to meet her, her facial expression became very intense. it said very painfully "i am sorry i have given everyone so much trouble. or how much of a bother i have been to all of you. due to my pathetic condition everyone has gone so much out of their way" etc etc
i could not see her saying all those things quietly. so this time i left even earlier, barely a minute later.
same afternoon a call was recieved by someone at home that chachaji and i have to go to the hospital, driver is coming to fetch us. we both thought that this was the moment. chachaji was very jittery. in the car i asked him to breath deeply to make him a bit relaxed.
we reached there. seema wa there too. she said "oh i said only papa was to come." but it was all fine. it seems chachiji wanted to see chachaji. he went in and met her.
later he told that i asked her a few things like "do you want to come home; to which she said NO. he said when seems asks the same question, she says YES. she says NO to everything i ask." i felt bad for him. but he said it with a sense of humour.
I have missed last Sunday this time, as my Chachi was not well. She has expired on 20 July. So missing one Quote Hanger is fine. Here are this week's better ones:-
